Common practice

Why it's written this way

Window bids get compared on the unit price. Separate it from the install and the comparison gets fair.

1

Why separate units from installation?

The unit is the product the customer researched. The install is your value. Two lines let each be compared on its own.

2

Why list flashing and insulation with labor?

Because they're what a cheap install skips. Naming them shows the install is complete, not a box in a hole.

3

Why note field measure?

Sizes on an estimate are provisional until measured. Stating it protects against ordering disputes.

What varies by state

Common questions

Should I quote per window?

Show unit count and a units line; itemize per window on the order, not the estimate.

Do I include painting?

No. Exclude it or add a line.

What about rotten framing?

Allowance plus per-opening rate. Photograph and bill against it.

How long is the estimate valid?

30 days; custom units have lead times.
